Summer

Sorcerer has been known as a popular ski mountaineering area for many years, but, we have not operated much in the summer. Located as it is in the heart of the spectacular and remote Selkirks, the area has seen few visitors. It is difficult to get to. Because few people have been here, no trails exist and the hiking and mountaineering are challenging. Here is a place where you will feel that you have found true wilderness. You will likely walk in places where no one has been before.

We have held back from offering summer trips because of the technical nature and difficulty of the terrain. We felt that the area was too rugged, that the hikers would need trails and bridges. Now, we're seeing a desire on the part of many summer travellers to challenge themselves to real wilderness, and search out true adventure.

There are a lot of people who will appreciate and enjoy this area for the very reasons we were holding back... because it’s rugged, remote, stunningly beautiful and not for the weak hearted!

So, the lodge is now available to independent groups of competent hikers and mountaineers who wish to do comfortable mountaineering trips with some interesting and challenging objectives. Mt. Iconoclast, at 10,670’ makes you KNOW you are on top. There is nothing near by to challenge the height of this mountain and the view goes forever. Others include the Nordic Peaks, Merlin, the Little Matterhorn, the Escargot and Mt. Pearce.

Mt. Iconoclast serves as the backdrop to Ventego Lake, a huge robin egg blue glacial lake that spills over a cliff to form the headwaters of Ventego Creek. We have lakes to swim in, rocks and peaks to climb, glaciers to explore, many waterfalls to sit beside and even a rare “rock flour” golden sand dune to play on. Admirers of blue ice will be fascinated with this area as the huge Nordic glacier is a short walk from the lodge and is in constant change. You can listen to the earth being shaped while exploring caves and crevasses.

There is no place like it. We would love to have the opportunity to show our back yard to you in the summer.

Please call us if you would like to talk about Summer trips.
